Vintage Chinese hand-painted snuff bottle necklace. The Chinese art of glomis uses a very thin bamboo brush with a few strands of hair to apply watercolor on the inside walls of the blank glass bottle manifesting a different image on each side. Beautiful crystal clear Snuff Bottle depicting an ancient scene of 2 beautiful Geisha ladies on one side & a tree on the other. The snuff bottle hangs from a long black silk cord with a beautiful Chinese Knot above the bottle. The necklace slips over the head. It does not have a clasp. Snuff, a mixture of powdered tobacco, herbs, & spices, was introduced to China by Western diplomats in the 17th century. The opportunity for ranking members of Chinese society to customize their snuff bottles made them favorite collectibles. When I have time, I will post a picture wearing the necklace.
