This turn-of-the century pieces took a little detective work & seriously delight me. The caddy with the detailed bowl: Crafted by B. Neresheimer & Sohne, this antique sterling silver Hanau-made lovely piece is a highly detailed repouss silver salt, tea or sugar shovel/caddy. From the tip of the handle to the end of the bowl, this sweet piece has been carefully honed. See men (father & son?) traveling together, a windmill carved in the bowl. Rare to find something so very lovely. I love the heft of this sweet piece, too. Dimensions: 3 5/8 inches x 1 1/4 inches Weight: 24 grams Markings: an ’n’ in a shield, a pineapple, & an indistinguishable mark. This maker largely crafted 930 silver. The caddy with the smooth bowl: in this, the scene depicts men talking at a table with a younger boy. Don’t miss the sweet craftsmanship on both sides. Unfortunately, no maker’s marks are given on this unique piece, but we do know the silver content as 830 silver, one of the European standards for sterling silver. Dimensions: 3 3/4 inches x 1 1/2 inches Weight: 23 grams Markings: 830 Since these are solid silver, you don’t have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith’s wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they’ll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.) No monograms. Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.
