A shrub-like perennial, it is a member of the pea family & thrives in cooler climates. An upright plant, the flowers look like blue peas, followed by dark, glossy pea pods & a glossy leaf pattern. Also known as Wild Indigo or Blue False Indigo, this native plant needs at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. Planting Instructions: Since this plant does not transplant well, it should be direct sown. The seed will need to be scarified; to accomplish this, pour 150 degrees F water over the seed & let it soak overnight the day before planting. in late fall, plant 2-3 seeds per plant, 1/8 deep, spaced 24-36 apart. For spring planting, the scarified seed will need to be mixed with moist sand & stored in the refrigerator for 10 days before planting.
