This beautiful handcrafted walnut salt cellar is a kitchen workhorse & counter top statement piece. A favorite of home chefs & professionals alike, salt cellars (also known as salt pigs) ensure the perfect pinch is always within reach. This particular design includes a divider, allowing the chef to store both kosher salt for seasoning during cooking & flaky salt for finishing (or pink salt, or any other combination of spices that are desired). Large enough to keep weeks’ worth of pasta water salted like the sea, nimble enough for a quick reach to season a dish to taste, this perfectly proportioned piece helps you be more efficient in the kitchen & spend less time refilling or searching through cupboards. The smooth hinged & overhanging lid allows for one handed operation while your other hand is busy keeping a pan from scorching. The food grade mineral oil finish is safe & maintains the inherent character & color of gorgeous walnut grain. This wood is sourced from the longest running lumber mill in Michigan, & I personally mill each rough-sawn board into its final form. This adds significant time to production, but it ensures the highest quality boards are selected & waste is minimized. As an environmental sustainability professional & watershed planner by day, giving back to the forests that make these products possible is part of my mission. 5% of profits from this shop are donated: half to nation-wide reforestation initiatives, half to local watershed protection efforts here in the Great Lakes basin. Each box is unique, as wood grain varies from each tree & board. Every effort is made to select & highlight the most attractive grain patterns on the front & lid while still balancing wise & sustainable use of the resource. Salt not included. It holds a little more than 3.5 cups of kosher salt. The new packing material is 100% paper based, biodegradable, & curbside recyclable. The honeycomb cells not only protect the shipped product, but are also aesthetically pleasing!
