Gentianopsis thermalis is an annual in the Gentianaceae family. A native to Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, & New Mexico. There are over 325 species in the genus Gentiana with most having the color of blue to purple flowers & four to five petals. It grows to around 8 inches tall. These flowers are 1.5 to 3 inches long, deep blue in color, with 4 petals. When the weather is overcast, the petals will twist up until closed & reopen with the sun. It will grow best in moist soils in meadows or along stream banks in the mountains. It prefers to grow in full sun. Birds & bees will visit it. Annual Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium & lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover & keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
