Cyrtostachys renda is a tropical palm in the Arecaceae family. Some common names include Lipstick Palm, Red Sealing Wax Palm, & Sealing Wax Palm. A native to Thailand, Malaysia, Sumatra, & Borneo in Indonesia. It can grow to 40 feet tall in its natural zone but is usually seen around 10-20 feet tall. The bright red & slender palm is multi-stemmed & a slow-grower. The red stripe gets around 4 inches wide, with the petiole growing 6 inches long. The pinnate leaves have about 50 pairs of pinnae. It is used in flooring materials, roof thatching, & also for making darts. A real eye-catcher for your collection. It can be grown in a container to keep inside. It will require well-drained soil, add sand to your soil, & add a layer of peat in the soil with low carbon to nitrogen ratio. Finally, keep your soil on the wetter side but not soaked. Seeds are kept refrigerated for freshness. Zones 10-11 Germination Soak seeds for 24 hours, changing the water every 8 hours. Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds & lightly cover with a medium.
