Bouteloua curtipendula is a perennial ornamental grass or bamboo in the Poaceae family. It is commonly known as Sideoats Grama. It provides food for moths, cattle, & several critters. A native to the Western Hemisphere, from Canada south to Argentina. It grows to 2 feet tall & 15inches wide, so a small ornamental grass. The leaves are alternate in a blue-green color a quarter-inch wide. The flowers bloom in the summer, which are spikes that fall to one side of the stem. Once finished blooming, they turn straw-like in color then fall off. This one requires minimal water, but full sun will help it out. It is also the state grass of Texas. It is considered an endangered species in Connecticut. Zones 4-9 Germination Sow seeds 1/4 deep & lightly cover with a medium. Keep moist in a bright spot.
