Birds Eye Chilli is sometime known as Thai hot, Thai dragon, & boonie pepper, is a small chilly which carries a lot of heat & with very little flavour as a result. On the Scoville Scale it is between 100,000-225,000 & is a cultivar of Capsicum annuum. It is very popular all over India & the Far East. Chillies, come in all shapes, sizes & colours ranging from tiny pointed extremely hot, birds eye chilli ( this product ) to the large mild fleshy peppers like the anaheim. Indigenous to Central & South America & the West Indies. They have been cultivated there for thousands of years before the Spanish conquest, which eventually introduced them to the rest of the world.Not all dry & store well so the range available is smaller for the dried product than the fresh. Mexican cooking is one of the worlds oldest cuisines, the explorers of the New World brought back tomatoes & peppers, red hot chillies, avocados, various beans, vanilla & chocolate, these flavours were to change the flavours of Europe.
