On offer is this lovely antique salt cellar. It’s in good condition overall, the silver plating shines up well still - notable light ware in areas exposing the base nickel silver (brassy tone) as well as a tiny dimple dent to the underside area which catches the light; notable light scuffs & scratches commensurate with age; the interior shows extensive ware to the original gilding with notable scratching all over & signs of old verdigris / oxidation discoloration but as shown all adding to the aged charm & character of the piece. The silver plated spoon present also shows notable ware to the back of the bowl & handle edging exposing the base nickel silver which has darkened in areas. It’s of traditional form, beautifully decorated with floral sprays & a bead pattern top edge which displays ever so well still. The front also features a small cartouche engraved with original owners’ monogram / initials. The interior shows traces of original gilding & displays well despite the evident issues. Marked on the underside for Elkington, Sheffield produced, date letter for 1867. Also present is a silver plated cruet spoon - not original to the salt - decorated with an old English & fiddle pattern terminal & marked for Charles Ellis of Sheffield - slightly later in date. The salt measures a charming 7cm (2 & 3/4 inches) in outer body diameter (widest) by 35mm in height including the feet. The top has an inner diameter of 52mm & the spoon itself measures 89mm in length. A delightful table addition which despite the condition issues raised is ready to be collected & enjoyed once again!
