For your consideration: An Antique Hanau 800 Purity Silver Jardinire Planter with Gold Wash Inside by Simon Rosenau - Repousse Bowl - Late 19th Century - Made in Germany - Bad Kissingen Presented is a stunning German silver footed bowl or Jardinire, dating to the late 1800’s by Simon Rosenau. His business was founded in 1862 & succeeded by his son, Hermann Simon Rosenau, in the 1890’s maintaining tight commercial links with Hanau manufacturers until his retirement from business in 1932. This fine antique is referred to as a Jardinire planter or Repousse bowl. It measures 13 Long x 6 5/8 Deep x 4 3/4 Tall. Hallmarked with silver fineness ‘800’ & maker’s mark ‘SR’ under the crown. The outside silver portion of the oval jardinire with a curved edge is decorated with flowers, putties (like cherubs), rocailles & stylized leaf motifs. The interior has a rich gold wash with little to no wear. If you notice the inside of the jardinire is as figured as the outside. It is in excellent condition with details of the design being nice & crisp. There is a fair amount of black in the recesses of the design, which I have not tried to clean up. The silver has no splits, no dents, no monograms or repairs. Please see all photos for details, although they don’t do it justice. It takes a lot of time, months or sometimes years, to make a repouss piece like this. This is fine artistry by an excellent craftsman. Thank you for viewing my item.
