The Salter brothers Richard & William, started the company from their cottage in the village of Bilston, England back in 1760 with the introduction of spring balances. The large domestic weighing scale for sale here dates from the mid to late 1800’s & it’s as good to use today as it has been over the last 150 years. Equally good to keep on display in your vintage shop, home or Tea Room. Mrs Patmore would most probably have used a similar Salter scale below stairs in the Downton Abbey kitchen! It is in great vintage condition with the capacity to weigh up to 20lbs in increments of 1 ounce (20lbs/pounds = circa 9kg. One ounce = 28g). With continued care this should last another 150 years & beyond. The scale consists of an ornate cast iron surround with the original brass pan & large reading dial. Measures 12 tall & 10 wide (30 x 25 centimetres) This is heavy at 2kg before packaging hence it will be shipped to your overseas home by Royal Mail Tracked & Signed Global Priority Service or Royal Mail Tracked & Signed Parcelforce Service within the UK.
