The Ondamed System
Ondamed
The Ondamed is an electromagnetic frequency device that offers a highly specific bio-feed back analysis and application, based on electromagnetic inductivity.
Using the patient's pulse as the biofeedback method, the practitioner scans the body's preferences, determines interference fields, and simultaneously delivers the frequencies that will support the patient's own healing.

Ondamed comes from the Latin word "onda" for wave. The waves or frequencies activate a regulating response in the cells, and stagnant conditions are transformed into active conditions in the process of normalization.
This process leads the body through a rapid reversal of symptoms.
All our organ systems have frequencies, and all micro-organisms such as bacteria and viruses have their own unique frequency.
By scrolling through these frequencies and assessing the patient's pulse, the practitioner can pick up any interfering frequencies which block the bio-energy of the body.
Many chronic conditions can be helped using this system such as bronchitis, sinusitis, urinary infections or gastro-intestinal infections.

Aine Delaney SRN, is a practitioner of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine with over 15 years experience.

Writing for Well Being: A One Day Workshop at Cnoc Suain

Saturday 14th November

Clinical psychologist and writer, Patricia McAdoo will lead a one day workshop introducing participants to the idea of writing for well being. While there are many courses on creative writing, the emphasis in Writing for Well Being is not on critiquing what is written but rather, through structured writing exercises, to understand and integrate our experiences and gain a sense of perspective and control in our lives. Extensive research on the therapeutic benefits of writing has shown that it can have a powerful effect on physical and psychological well being. This workshop introduces participants to the possibility of using writing as a way of expressing emotions, clarifying their understanding of experiences, and thereby gaining a powerful tool in self reflection. As well as all of that, it is also hoped that participants experience for themselves, as many others have, the sheer joy and excitement of writing in a self reflective, questioning, open way. And in the truly spectacular surroundings of Cnoc Suain, all of that should be more than possible!

Cost : 95 euro (Light lunch included).

Date & Time : Saturday, November 14th , 10.00 am to 4.30 pm

Numbers limited to 12 people.

Venue : Cnoc Suain, An Spidéal. Directions at: www.CnocSuain.com

horse chestnut autumn

Horse Chestnut

(Aesculus hippocastanum)

By Sarah Hughes, Medical Herbalist

I love autumn - even driving back from Dublin yesterday, which can be a tedious journey at the best of times, the swathes of colours from the trees along the roadside made the journey so much more enjoyable and I swear it went past quicker. One of the trees in the midst of all this colour change is the majestic Horse Chestnut tree. Not a native to this country but an import from India in the 17th century these trees are the first to come into leaf in the spring and now their seed (better known as the conker) are emerging. Is there anyone who doesn't like conkers? I have yet to find someone. They cannot fail but bring a smile to the face. That shiny brown colour alone is a pick you up and their smooth texture is a comfort. I always have a conker in my pocket at this time of year. It takes me back to my childhood and the magic of cracking open a Horse Chestnut and the shiny brown nut appearing - a little present in perfect wrapping.

As with all plants - there is more to the conker than meets the eye. When crushed contains soap like substances called saponins. These relieve the symptoms of varicose veins and promote their repair due to toning of the veins, reduction of fluid retention around the veins and a general drying out as well as some anti-inflammatory action. If you suffer from varicose veins I would recommend you take a tincture internally and apply a cream externally so attacking the problem from both sides. Come and see me if you are taking any medication as I would need to check for interactions.

Sarah Hughes practices from Health and Herbs on a daily basis. If you want to book an appointment please ring the shop on 091 583 260 or me directly on 087 060 6458.

Roasted Root Vegetables with Leek and Mushroom Sauce and a crunchy Hazelnut topping

roasted veggies

This is perfect comfort food for a winters evening and it is dairy free.

Roast Vegetables
1 medium sweet potato peeled and cut into bite size chunks
1 large or 2 small parsnips as above
1 medium butternut squash peeled, deseeded and cut into bite size chunks
1 tsp dried thyme
4 tbsp olive oil
Grind of salt and black pepper

Put all the vegetables in a large roasting tin so they are in a single layer. Coat with the olive oil and then sprinkle on the thyme and salt and pepper.
Put into a med hot oven and roast for 30 minutes until just soft,

Sauce
2 leeks washed and sliced thinly
8 oz mushrooms washed and sliced and chopped up small
2 heaped tbsp wholemeal flour - i use spelt
3 cloves garlic crushed
1 tsp dried mixed herbs and 1 tsp dried sage
soya milk approx ¾ pint
2 tsp dijon mustard
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil

In a medium saucepan, gently fry the leeks, mushrooms, herbs and garlic with the lid on stiring often. When vegetables are soft and there is a little liquid add the flour. Stir to combine and cook for a minute. Gradually add the soya milk till you have a sauce like consistency - you might need more milk. Add the mustard and salt and check the seasoning.

Topping
4 oz hazelnuts wizzed in a food processor until crumbly but not ground
1 slice wholemeal bread made into breadcrumbs
1 tbsp each of sunflower, sesame and pumpkin seeds
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp tamari (wheat free soya sauce)
good grind of black pepper

In a small bowl combine all the ingredients and mix well.

When the roasted vegetables are cooked, spoon the sauce over them until well covered. Sprinkle on the topping until well covered and bake in a medium oven for about 15 minutes till the topping is crunchy looking and the sauce is bubbling up through the vegetables.
Serve with brown basmati rice and some stir fried cabbage or brussels sprouts - finely shred some green cabbage or sprouts and pan fry them for about 10 minutes with a little olive oil, a clove of crushed garlic and some lemon zest. Season with sea salt and black pepper.

I have made this dish dairy free but you could make the sauce with butter and cows milk and you could add 2 oz cheddar cheese to the topping for a dairy version.
